Obituary of Gerald Arthur 'Jerry' Pitz
-CUYAHOGA FALLS
Beloved husband and father, Gerald Arthur (Jerry) Pitz, 77, of Cuyahoga Falls went home to God on April 22, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born in Akron on March 31, 1936 to Mildred and James E. Pitz, and was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended North High School, and worked for the Akron Board of Education for 30 years. He was a devout Catholic, and and active member of St. Anthony Parish in Akron for over 40 years. Known by all as a sweet and gentle man, he was a talented artist, and a lover of astronomy and science fiction. Even in his struggle, he never lost his quiet wit, which brought smiles to those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jo (Weinman) Pitz, daughters Diane Pitz Hesseman, Katie (Ron) Santoro, Louise (Brett) Fritch, son Jerry (Jennifer) Pitz, brother David Pitz, sister Mary (Don) Harkless, Susan (Bruce) Scherer, Carol (Don) Dixon of Sparks, NV, grandchildren Patrick Swejk, Ron and Angie Santoro, Virginia and Cyrus Fritch, Emily and Aiden Pitz and Orion, Allen and Caide Hesseman. He will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 26 at 9:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church 83 Mosser Place in Akron. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 5-8 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home MCGOWAN-REID & SANTOS CHAPEL, 247 Stow Ave. (At Third St., one block north of Portage Trail) in Cuyahoga Falls.
