Obituary of James Paul Musarra

Jim Musarra Jim Musarra passed away in the comfort of his own home on August 15, 2017. He has left this earth after 94 years to be with the love of his life, Olga Shatrich. Jim was born on July 14, 1923 in Akron, Ohio to the late Sebastiano and Sebastiana Musarra. He attended McEbright grade school and Garfield High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and saw action in the European theatre. He was wounded twice in battle and received a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. Jim was honorably discharged when the war ended and he returned to Akron and married his high school sweetheart Olga. They moved to the Portage Lakes area and raised their children there. Jim was a long time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He worked at Ohio Bell for over 35 years and retired in 1983. After retirement he and Olga traveled to many different places. They made yearly trips to Florida in the winter to spend time with their three grandsons. Jim also volunteered often after retirement. He has done volunteer work for Camp Quality Ohio, St. Demetrius Serbian Orthodox Church, Interval Brotherhood Home, and Barberton Hospital. Jim was a good, decent and kind man who helped others whenever he could – traits that he shared with Olga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Olga, his son Jim, and sisters/brothers, Anna Lupica, Lena Capatosta, Russell Musarra, Joseph Musarra, and Sam Musarra. He is survived by son Tom, grandsons, Nick (Adriana), Frank and Alex, and great grandchildren, Sydney, Charlotte and Liam. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends Thursday 4 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron. Funeral services will begin Friday at 9:45am at the funeral home and will continue at 10:30 am St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH 44319 with the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Haven of Rest or the Akron/Canton Food Bank, organizations that try to help those who are in need.
