Obituary of Donald C. Girard
Donald Cletus Girard, age 82, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017. Don was born at home in Middlebranch to Carl and Gertrude Girard on August 12, 1934. He was Class President of Magnolia High School's graduating class of 1952. Don also served proudly in the U.S. Army, at Fort Ord, California and at Conn Barracks, Schweinfurt, West Germany, from 1956 to 1958.
After the service, Don returned home to Stark County and worked as a contractor and home builder, eventually becoming a stock broker and businessman in the areas of Stark and Summit County. In 1974, Don moved to the western United States and continued his business interests, first based in Great Falls, Montana, then in Spokane, Washington, Missoula, Montana, and Bellevue, Washington. Upon retirement, Don returned to Ohio and spent his remaining years in the Cuyahoga Falls area.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Trego) Girard, brothers James Girard Sr. and Nathaniel Girard, and sister Vivian Griffith. He is survived by his brother Eugene Girard, sister Kathryn Eileen Richard, son Scott Girard, and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. At Don's request, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. Final arrangements to be conducted by Anthony Funeral Homes, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, Akron. The Girard family would like to thank the staffs of Bath Creek Estates, Portage Trail Village, Stow-Glen Retirement Village, Western Reserve Hospital and Akron City Hospital for their compassionate care at the end of Don's life.
