Obituary of John R. Shea

John R. Shea 69, passed away suddenly on February 24th, 2017. Born in Akron on October 31st, 1947 to the late Robert and Mary Margret Shea, John was a lifetime area resident and a 1965 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High school. John served his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelors of Arts from the University of Akron. Johnny, as many of his baseball buddies called him, was one of the original Roy Hobbs League players. He formed many close friendships throughout the years with this league and was preparing to hit the dirt again for the 2017 season. He loved his family, friends, nature, traveling, art, music and of course, baseball. John had a beautiful soul and will be remembered for his creativity, unique personality and willingness to help anyone who needed it. John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Andie: Daughter Susie (Fiancé Pete Dunn) Shea; granddaughter Cassidy; siblings Kathy (Ray) Trenta, Mike Shea and sister-in-law Sue (Don) Acker as well as many nieces and nephews and friends. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, 5-7 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home KUCKO-ANTHONY-KERTESZ CHAPEL, 1990 S. Main st in Akron, where a remembrance service will follow. Please dress casually, jeans and a t-shirt, baseball jersey, tie dye or Hawaiian button up, John wouldn't want it any other way. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National League of POW/MIA Families 5673 Columbia Pike Suite 100 Falls Church, VA .
