Obituary of John Miskalo

John Miskalo, 93, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center. John was born July 19, 1923 to Dan and Elizabeth (Bogdan) Miskalo in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life. He was a WWII Navy veteran and Plankowner serving aboard the USS Wasp in the South Pacific. He saw action daily for over 20 months and survived the bombing of his ship. John worked in construction for thirty two years much of that for the Ruhlin Co. He was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church for over 50 years serving as head usher and opening the church every Sunday for 45 years for the early Mass. He got the sacristy ready, prepared the gifts, arranged for a family to present the gifts, put out the bulletins, and even made sure the restrooms were presentable. He was a third degree member of the South Akron Council 3410 of the Knights of Columbus. Yearly, John had a vegetable garden growing plants from seeds and gave away excess. He rarely passed a nursery without picking flowers adding to his growing perennial garden. From his abundant daffodil garden, he planted the daffodil garden at the Hospice Center where he died. John lived his faith and was dedicated to family, church, always eager to help those in need. John was preceded in death by three wives, Olga, Mary Alice and most recently, Margie and he is survived by his children Mary Cusack and Stephen (Elizabeth) Miskalo; grandson Sean Cusack and sister Olga Flasco. The family will receive friends Monday 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm. Funeral services will held Tuesday 9:30 am at the funeral home and will continue at 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St.Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH 44319. Cremation will follow with interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 9:30 am. Donations may be made to Holy Family Home Care and Hospice, 6707 State Rd, Cleveland, OH 44134 or St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Akron. The family would like to thank the staff at Select Specialty Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Hospice for their kindness in caring for John. (AKRON)
