Obituary of Bill Abshire
Bill Abshire, Jr., 83, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Akron General Medical Center after a short illness.
Bill was born September 24, 1926 to Bill and Fairy (Hunt) Abshire in Floyd, Ky. and had been an Akron resident since 1942. He was employed by the City of Akron in the Parks and Recreation Department for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Akron Blind Center.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christine in 2007 and his brother, John, and is survived by his children, Debbie Wallen of Akron, William (Mary) Abshire of El Segundo, Calif., Samuel (Cheryl) Abshire of Wadsworth and Thomas (Jennifer) Abshire of Springfield; grandchildren, Jesse and Gretchen Justice and Taylor, Sarah, Erin and Merit Abshire.
Next to his family, Bill's passion was fishing. Lake Erie was a favorite spot but the King Fish and Barracuda he caught deep sea fishing in Mexico are at home mounted on the wall.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. and 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Akron Blind Center, 325 E. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44304.
