James A. Eckman passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.
Jim was born December 27, 1936 to Ellis and Lucille (Edge) Eckman in Akron and had been an area resident his entire life. He was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as an accountant for 36 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was a veteran of the Air Force during the Korean War.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years Beverly; sons and daughters-in-law James and Nancy Eckman of New Franklin and Dr. Jeffrey M. and Hope Eckman of Green; grandchildren Amanda, Jimmy, Taylor, Emily, Daniel, Brandon and Alyssa Eckman; siblings Doris (Joe) Tichy of Phoenix, AZ, David (Cheryl) Eckman of Akron and Susan and (Dave) Piper of Bradenton, FL.; brother-in-law Mike (Jean) Hyrnick.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The only thing he loved more than the outdoors was his family, especially his seven grandchildren.
His many hobbies and interests included stained glass, woodworking, inventing, hunting, fishing and golf. This was only if he was not spending quality time with his grandchildren or attending one of their school or sporting events. His quick wit and generosity will be missed by many.
