Obituary of Edward Yanik
EDWARD YANIK
Edward Yanik, 83, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center.
He was born July 24, 1926 to Paul and Mary (Faber) Yanik in Kenmore and had been an Akron resident his entire life. He graduated from Kenmore High and was inducted into the US Army. He served during WWII and participated in two battles in the Pacific Theater. He returned and took employment with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as a tire builder for over 39 ½ years retiring in 1981.
Edward was an avid golfer. He enjoyed his membership at Firestone CC and later Maplecrest CC. He had a total of four holes-in-one and with his first coming on the 15th hole of the South Course. He was a member of the Army-Navy Garrison 250.
Edward took his responsibilities seriously. He was a loving husband and a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marjorie (Zekan) Yanik; children Sandy (Richard) Downs of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lou (Cindi) Yanik of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren Tammy Calder, Amber Rose Yanik, Andrew (Angie) Rottinghaus, John Rottinghaus and Leah (Alex) Villvincenzio; great grandchildren Matthew Calder, Stephen and Joseph Rottinghaus and Isaac Villavincenzio; Siblings Anne Heben, Mildred Yanik and Robert Yanik; sisters-in-law Ann Yanik; brother-in-law Bob Brady; special nieces Kimberly McCarthy and Debi Kerby; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends; and was preceded in death by his siblings Paul and John Yanik and Mary Brady.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 5 Pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. A Memory Service will be held Monday 11:00 Am at the funeral home and will be followed by interment with Military Honors at Ohio Western Reserve Veterans Cemetery in Rittman.
