Obituary of John Harlan Dix
Dr. John Harlan Dix, M.D. passed away early Monday morning one year and
thirty days after his loving wife Janet. He was an exemplary Husband,
Father, and Physician who left a lasting legacy to all that knew him.
Harlan had many gifts. He was an accomplished orator placing 3^rd in the
nation in High School forensic competition back in the 1930's. He was a
gifted healer and was known as one of the finest diagnosticians in the
medical field during his tenure as a physician which spanned over 40
years. He was a judicious counselor-a "go to" person when one needed sound
advice. He was honest, honorable, and caring.
Harlan was born in Wooster, Ohio the youngest son of five boys born to
Emmett and Edna Dix on January 30, 1921. His grandfather and father, along
with his brothers, were publishers of newspaper businesses beginning with
The Daily Record, in Wooster, Ohio. Harlan was the last surviving brother.
Harlan leaves behind seven of his children, Bondie, Clint, Lesley, John,
Doug, Amy and Katy and his sons' and daughters' in laws, Reid Hankin,
Janet Dix, John Glase, Cathy Dix, Tom Haught, and Gary Brahler,
respectively. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
Although Harlan will be greatly missed by family and all those whom he
took care and/or whom got to know him, it is so comforting to know that
Harlan and Janet are now together again in the presence of the Lord. We
know this because of his genuine Christian faith and practice.
Calling hours will be from 9:30 am. to 11:30 am. on December 3, 2009, in
the lounge at Bethany United Church of Christ located at 1235 Broad Blvd.,
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Funeral services will follow calling hours and lunch
will be served after the services.
Donations can be made in Harlan's name to Hospice of Visiting Nurse
Service at 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio, 44333.
