Obituary of John Bogdan
John Bogdan, age 91, died peacefully at Highbanks Care Center on Monday, November 16, 2009 following a gradual decline in his health.
He was born April 12, 1918 in Akron Ohio. He attended Akron Buchtel High School and graduated in 1936. John served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. During World War II he was stationed in North Africa and Italy.
Shortly after he was discharged, he worked for the American Arabian Oil Company in Saudi Arabia for four years. He later returned to America working at Commercial Traffic for 30 years.
John was the son of the late Yelca and George Bogdan of Akron. He was the loving brother of William Bogdan and Flora Mirsh who are both deceased. He was the uncle of the late Bibi Robinson and Gerald Mirsch. He is survived by his siblings, Lucretia Lantz of Akron, Ohio, George Bogdan of Meridian, Idaho and Mary Copacia of Shelby Township, Michigan.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Vivian Radu, Donald Mirsch, Sharon Marquard, John Jones, Jeff Lantz, Patty Bogdan-deLugo, David Bogdan, Terry Copacia, Tim Copacia, Tod Copacia, Trevor Copacia and many great nieces and nephews.
He was a big sports fan and loved cheering for his Ohio State Buckeye football team. He took great interest in his nieces and nephews and loved talking about old times with family members at the Bogdan family reunions.
John was a member of Presentation of Our Lord Romanian Orthodox Church.
Visitation will take place Thursday, November 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel located at 1990 South Main Street, Akron Ohio. A Saracusta service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 20th at 10 a.m. at the Presentation of Our Lord Romanian Orthodox Church located at 3365 Ridgewood Rd. in Fairlawn Ohio. The body will lie in state from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
