Obituary of Sue A. Colton
-CUYAHOGA FALLS
Surrounded by her husband of 54 years, their four children and much
love, Sue left her earthly home on Monday November 9, 2009 for a new one
filled with peace and tranquility. Her fight with cancer lasted one year.
Sue was born in Nelsonville, Ohio on September 16, 1936. She moved with
her parents to Columbus when she was 5 years old and in 1954, Sue
graduated from North High School where she was fun, outgoing, involved
and popular among her peers. Late in her senior year, she started dating
the man who would later become her husband and life partner. After
finishing one year at Ohio State, she and Steve were married. They had
four wonderful, healthy children and eventually settled in Cuyahoga
Falls in 1966. She truly loved Northeast Ohio.
Sue was intelligent, an avid reader and was always well informed on
current issues. We always thought she'd make a fortune on Jeopardy. She
loved to camp, swim, water ski and travel across America, having been
from one coast to the other as well as top to bottom. In doing so, Steve
swore she was the World's Best Navigator and co-pilot. She created a fun
and comfortable home which was usually the hangout for the neighborhood
kids. But what she loved most and did best was raising her children and
later, grandchildren. She loved her family deeply and they loved her
deeply in return.
Sue was a generous and beautiful wife, mother and person whose moral
compass never wavered. She is survived by her husband Steve, sons Mark
(Kim) and Doug (Betsy), daughters Laurie Hart and Wendy, sister Jane
Shough (John) of Springfield Ohio, eleven grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren with two more due in 2010.
She had dedicated and caring people in her corner both in the battle
with the disease and in the transition to her next journey. Among those
we would like to thank are Dr. Esther Rhemus, Dr. Robert Netzley, the
staff at Akron General and the compassionate staff at The Hospice Care
Center on Ridgewood Road in Akron.
The Colton family would like to receive relatives, friends and neighbors
on Friday, November 13, from 5-8pm at the Anthony Funeral Home
McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel (at 3rd st., one block north of Portage
Trail in the Falls). Reverend Dana Cummings will officiate a memorial
service celebrating Sue's wonderful life on Saturday November 14, at
11:00, at the funeral home. Sue will be inurned at Chestnut Hill
Cemetery in the Falls and also at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville. In
lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the American
Cancer Society or to the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice Development
Fund, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron OH 44333-6118.
