James Sparkman Wilson
James Sparkman Wilson, 89, went home to be with the Lord on October 27th, at the Hickory Ridge Care Center in Akron.
Born in Akron, Ohio in 1920 to the late James and Sarah Wilson, James had been a Cuyahoga Falls/Stow resident since 1955. He was a longtime member of the former Christ Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls, where he was an usher and a reader. He also led the church building campaign. James was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was an avid boater and enjoyed spending weekends boating in Sandusky with his family.
Jim began his working career in the rubber industry with The Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron and later with Cooper Tire in Findlay, OH. In 1955 he began working as an accountant for Morse Controls in Hudson, OH, where he later became Secretary and Treasurer. He retired in 1983 after 28 years of service
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Martha, and his sister Nelda. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Dale Wilson of Akron and William and Karen Wilson of Wadsworth; daughters Nelda Wilson of Cuyahoga Falls and Nancy Unruh of Mansfield; grandchildren Patrick, Sarah, Thomas, and Ted Wilson, Tracy Smith, Chandra Bramlett-Mitchell, MacKenzie and Meredith Millward, Corinne Bettle, and Amy and Jennifer Unruh; 6 great-grandchildren and special young friend Anthony Ellis.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of the Hickory Ridge Care Center for the loving and attentive care given to their father and grandfather.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel (at 3rd st., one block north of Portage Trail in the Falls), where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. Donations in James' memory may be made to the American Cancer Society - Northeast Region 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406 or to the Spina Bifida Association 4590 MacArthur Blvd. NW, Ste. 250 Washington, DC 20007.
