Obituary of William Eugene Roland

William Roland, 71, of Akron, lost his lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia in the early hours of September 7, 2009 at Shady Lawn Healthcare in Dalton, OH. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 37 years and his 3 daughters. He was born in Akron, OH on May 22, 1938. He graduated from Tallmadge High in 1956. He was a U.S. Veteran of the Korean War and built airstrips in Germany and France. He was a member of Akron Bricklayers Local #7 for 25 years. He built Swimming pools and owned a construction business. He had a passion for motorcycles and traveling. He covered every state except Alaska & Hawaii. He left Ohio to follow his dream of gold mining and settled in California. Before moving back to Ohio he lived in Forks of Salmon, Ca and retired after 15 years running equipment for Siskiyou County Road Dept. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth & Lillian and his first wife Nancy. He is survived by his wife Helen (Boyle); daughters Teresa Short (Marvin) of Wellston, OH, Christine of Akron and Tamara Boyd (Mike) of Medford, OR; mother-in-law Cecilia Boyle of Akron; grandchildren Nicholas, Joey, Lance, Mercedes, Angel and River; sisters Shirley Keunert of Akron; Barb Enters of Rootstown and Marion Thoma of Chicago; brothers Robert of Stow, Kenny (Marjorie) of Akron; Jim of California; and many other loving relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to the Veterans Administration.
