Obituary of Pauline E. Kowal
Pauline E. Kowal (Grandma K), 80, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Akron City Hospital after a brief illness and a great life.
She was born October 28, 1928 to John and Rose (Gedeon) Smolak in Byesville, Ohio and came to Akron in 1954. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael in 1998 and her siblings George Smolak, Mary Chini, and Margaret and Josephine Smolak. She is survived by her children Helen (William) Poston of Green and Michael, Nicholas and Joseph (Wendy) Kowal all of Akron; grandson Eric Poston; siblings Helen (Harry) Liggett, Betty Hicks, Agnes (Len) Hayden and Paul (Darlene) Smolak; special niece Rose Helon and many other nieces, nephews, dear friends and 'the neighborhood' kids.
Pauline's life revolved around her faith, family, friends, food and fun. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was formerly active at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church. Her children were precious to her and she especially enjoyed her grandson Eric. She had many good friends and always had something to eat if you came to her house, especially potato chips and pop. She enjoyed all the Cleveland sports teams and the Buckeyes along with having a good time with all she knew.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:30 AM at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. (PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS) and 10:00AM at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
