Obituary of Ronald L Black
-CUYAHOGA FALLS
Ronald L. Black, 81, passed away August 8, at Heather Knoll in Tallmadge.
Born in Ivory Twp., N.Y. on April 23, 1928 to the late Robert and Corine Black, Ronald had been a Cuyahoga Falls resident for over 47 years. Ron served his country as a member of the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a B.S. in Electrical engineering. He spent almost 30 years as an electrical engineer with Johnson Controls in Akron, before retiring in 1984 to start his own consulting business. While working for Johnson Controls, he started teaching an apprenticeship class sponsored by the Electrical Contractors Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Ron was an excellent teacher. He had that uncanny ability of inspiring his students to excel. Ron was very inquisitive when it came to science and engineering. He worked on and helped to design the electrical and HVAC control systems at many of the major structures in the Akron/Cleveland area, including the Richfield Coliseum and the original Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium. Most of all, Ron was a generous man who would give the shirt off his back if a fellow man was in need.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his brother Richard. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Larie "Boots", whom he married on Nov 11, 1950; son Ronald D. Black of Cuyahoga Falls and daughter Rhonda Arvidson of Tallmadge; brother Robert Black of CA and sisters Barbara Brandon of Florida and Beatrice Johnson of Toledo. Ronald also leaves behind the loves of his life grandchildren Joseph Arvidson, Bryan Black, and Alexandria Black.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of both the Crossroads Hospice of Hudson and the Heather Knoll Care Center in Tallmadge for the wonderful care that was given to Ronald during his stay there.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home McGowan-Reid & Santos Chapel (at 3rd st., one block north of Portage Trail in the Falls), where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ronald's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116 - 7023.
