Obituary of Mary Amelia Mihiylov
Mary Amelia Mihiylov, 91, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 15, 2009. Born on October 22, 1917, in East Vandergrift, PA., she moved to Akron, OH. at age two. A 1935 graduate of Central High School, she thoroughly enjoyed playing the violin in the school orchestra. In 1943, she married Louis, on furlough before leaving to serve his country in Europe in WW II. During the War, she was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Company. She was a caring homemaker and loving mother, always placing the needs of others ahead of her own. Mary was a devoted Girl Scout leader for Troop 321. Her interests included, sewing, crocheting, working crossword puzzles, daily Bible reading, making rosaries, and hosting a weekly Bible study. She recently joined St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with previous memberships at St. Martha Church and Church of the Annunciation. She was preceded in death by parents, Eva (Slegus) and Antonias Smalukas; infant sister, Rose; and husband of nearly 53 years, Louis. Leaving to cherish her memory are son, Robert L. Mihiylov; daughter, Mary Anne Mihiylov; granddaughter, Amanda Mihiylov; great-granddaughter, Mikayla Mihiylov; sister, Melvina Snyder; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joyce Varga, Donna Margroff, and Allene Kronenthal. Funeral services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. (PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS) followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Fr. Patrick Shields celebrant. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery.
