Obituary of William 'Ed' McGraw

William 'Ed' McGraw, Jr., 66, passed away on May 20, 2009 at his home in Barberton after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Akron on May 28, 1942 and was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church. He was a 1960 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and was a very proud veteran of the US Navy. He was employed at American Equipment and Sterling, Inc. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf. He was a great fan of Elvis and everyone enjoyed his Elvis impersonations. Everyone who knew Ed enjoyed his sense of humor and loving heart. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all. Ed was preceded in death by his daughter Shelley R. McGraw and father William E. McGraw. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Joanne McGraw; son Michael (Michelle) McGraw of Akron; grandchildren Hannah and Emma McGraw; mother Laura J. Murphy; sister Susan McGraw; brother Robert McGraw of Coconut Creek, FL; step-brother James Averill and step-sister Phyliss (Leo) Rittenour of Barberton; aunt and uncle Pat and Don Cox of Canton, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins; step-children Jack (Lisa) Slinger III of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Brady, Camden, and Annika Slinger; Melissa (Tom Wiewiora ) Slinger of Canyon Country, CA. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital in memory of Ed and his daughter Shelley R. McGraw.
