Obituary of Joseph E. Lukacik
Joseph E. Lukacik, 86, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009.
He was born April 10, 1923 in Akron, Ohio and was the former executive director of labor relations at Mohawk Rubber Co. He attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Akron with an engineering background where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He was hired as an engineer by Mohawk Rubber Co. and was later transferred to personnel. Eventually he was promoted to director of personnel and labor relations negotiator and was responsible for all master agreements including personnel, health and welfare and arbitration proceedings in Akron; W. Helena, Arkansas and Stockton, California. He was hired by Dr. Norman Auburn as a director in administration and member of the faculty. He was also a counselor for the Bureau of Employment Services. He was happiest with this assignment because he was able to help those who needed a job and assistance. He served two years with the U.S. Army Air Corps. Service throughout Europe. His philosophy was "the more friends you have, the easier it is to live; and happiness comes when you make others happy".
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Lukacik; and sister, Margaret. He is survived by his brother, John Lukacik.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron (PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS) and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery where Firestone VFW Post 3383 will also conduct military honors. The family will receive friends TONIGHT, 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
