Obituary of Maria Porchowsky

Maria Porchowsky, 82, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ. Born in the Ukraine on August 23, 1926, Maria had been an Akron resident since 1959. She had been residing in Arizona since 2006. Maria was a member of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, as well as the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality at Holy Ghost. Maria was preceded in death by her husband Jarema and her brother Theodore. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Daria and Bill Lesiw of Brooklyn, Ohio, Helen and Mark Preebe of Stow, and Anna and Gary Boyce of Gold Canyon, AZ; sons and daughters-in-law Zenowij and Cathy Porchowsky of Wadsworth and Oleh and Terri Porchowsky of Atwater. Maria also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel 1990 S. Main St., where a parastas will be held at 7:30 pm. A funeral liturgy will begin Tuesday at 9:30 am at the funeral home and will continue at 10:00 am at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church on Brown St. in Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
